MEGHAN Markle and Prince Harry skipped the Met Gala last night despite Vogue boss Anna Wintour revealing the Duchess was one of her “dream” guests.

A-list stars dazzled last night as they stepped out in style for fashion’s biggest event of the year.

But royal fans noted the Sussexes were nowhere to be seen – despite Meghan once being labelled as a guest the Vouge editor “would love” to host.

Expert Richard Fitzwilliams has now revealed why he believes the Duke and Duchess of Sussex didn’t show face at the massive New York event.

He says while the logistics of Harry getting from New York to the UK – as he touched down today– could have been a factor, he believed there was something bigger at play.

Richard claimed that as Harry and Meghan wouldn’t be the centre of attention at the Met Gala, they wouldn’t want to go.

In 2019, Wintour said she’d love to have Meghan and Princess Kate at the event – and that they should leave their husbands at home.

Speaking to NBC’S Jenna Bush Hager she said: “I would love to have the Duchess of Sussex and the Duchess of Cambridge together.

“That would be my dream couple. They could leave their husbands at home. It’s the two of them I want.”

Speaking to The Sun today, royal expert Richard said: “Indeed, if such a pairing could be imagined, you can imagine that the world would be absolutely fascinated by it.

“But it seems to me most unlikely that that will ever materialise now.”

The expert said he believed the Sussexes would have never showed face as “A-Listers would not have been impressed”.

Richard continued: “You get the impression that they go to things because they want the attention to be centered on them.

“You see and be seen. This has always been part of the way, Hollywood A-listers can disport themselves because they’re news simply by turning up.

“You get the impression that the Sussexes, where they were on the Times 100 most influential people’s listed 2021, might very well not be on that list were it to be drawn up now because they haven’t really achieved that much.

“Put it this way, I doubt Hollywood A-listers are that impressed by what they have achieved.”

He added: “But what you don’t find is Harry and Megan confident enough to appear just for the sake of it, as opposed to appearing when the focus is just on them.

“They have to have the confidence to appear when the spotlight isn’t on them, and I don’t think they’ve got that yet.”

The Sun has approached the Sussexes for comment.

Richard was speaking as Harry touched down in the UK – and revealed he has no plans to see his father while here.

A spokesperson for Harry responded to “speculation on whether or not the duke will meet with his father while in the UK this week”.

They said: “It unfortunately will not be possible due to His Majesty’s full programme.

“The Duke of course is understanding of his father’s diary of commitments and various other priorities and hopes to see him soon.”

Harry and Charles last reunited at Clarence House in February for their first face-to-face meeting in 16 months.

The prince flew to the UK alone without Meghan or their children Archie and Lilibet.

But Meghan will join Harry on his visit to Nigeria later this week, it’s understood.

PRINCE ARCHIE turned five on Monday and he was likely celebrating with his family in Montecito, California.

The Sun spoke exclusively to royal commentator Ingrid Seward about how Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, could be celebrating their oldest child’s birthday.

She claimed: “As Archie has no cousins in California, he will invite his school friends – possibly the entire class. And the cool locals with kids and the Hollywood set.

“The party will be themed possibly Superhero which is popular with that age group.

“The food will be all gluten-free or possibly a choice, and there will be a themed birthday cake.”

Archie’s birthday cake could very well be made by Meghan.

For his fourth birthday last year, according to sources close to the family, she chose to bake her son a lemon cake using fruit from their garden, the Express reported

She added: “Games will be arranged with an entertainer or a group of entertainers – everyone young in LA that isn’t an actor is a party entertainer!

“They might arrange for a themed adventure around the garden or something like a woodland theme with cowboys and Indians or a superhero theme.

“They might bring in exotic animals and make an upmarket petting zoo for the kids. Llamas. Miniature ponies etc – talking parrots or tame monkey.”
