PRINCE Harry is “uniquely selfish” and feels “no regrets” for the horrid criticisms of his family in his memoir Spare, a royal expert claims.
The Duke of Sussex jokingly pointed to his own controversial work when asked for recommendations while opening a new bookshop with his wife Meghan Markle, it was reported earlier this week.
They were joined by their close friend Oprah Winfrey at the Godmothers bookshop near their California home in the posh oceanside town of Summerland.
Harry “silently pointed to his memoir Spare” when asked if he had a book recommendation, Town & Country reported.
Royal expert Tom Bower told The Sun that the prince is “undoubtedly” very proud of his book because it caused controversy.
He said: “He’s delighted by his own success, and I’m sure he feels absolutely no regrets for all the things that he did say on all the terrible accusations, and I think some lies, too.
“And the terrible criticism of Kate and William and the Queen.”
It is understood that the Duke of Sussex denies claims that anything in Spare is a lie.
When asked if Harry feels shame for writing Spare, the royal expert said: “I think the point about Harry is that he’s a very simple man, and he doesn’t understand many of the circumstances around his own life.
“He is convinced he’s actually right, and that Meghan has been appallingly treated.”
Mr Bower added: “He is just detached from the normal way of life.
“He’s never understood normality. He’s never understood normal human relationships or behavior.
“And he still thinks of himself as terribly special.”
He continued: “He is a uniquely selfish man, a man who is – often for him, the truth is a foreign landscape and there’s no chance whatsoever in my view of him coming back.
“And especially Meghan wouldn’t dream of coming back.
“She never wanted to stay in the first place, they’re thrilled to live in California.”
Harry’s memoir features prominently on the California shop’s “Our Local Authors” display along with Meghan’s children’s book The Bench.
Controversial claims made in Spare
PRINCE Harry’s memoir Spare was released on January 10, 2023, hot off the heels of Harry and Meghan’s Netflix docuseries and explosive chat with Oprah Winfrey where they made a series of bombshell revelations.
This included how two royals allegedly questioned the colour of Prince Archie’s skin tone.
But there was more to come in Harry’s book, as he recalled an alleged altercation with his brother William which ended with him falling into a dog bowl.
He also revealed how William disapproved of Harry’s marriage to Meghan and once called her “difficult,” “rude” and “abrasive.”
Harry’s father King Charles was also in the firing line for criticism.
Harry laid into his dad for not hugging him after the death of his mother, Diana, the late Princess of Wales, and claimed the King would often make jokes of “poor taste” about his paternity.
Kate Middleton, who Harry once hailed as the “sister I never had”, and stepmother Camilla were also not spared in the attack.
The Princess of Wales was accused of being cold towards her sister-in-law Meghan and it was claimed she was “disgusted” when Meghan asked to use her lipgloss.
He also partially blamed Kate and William for his decision to wear the controversial Nazi uniform to a fancy dress party in 2005, claiming they both “howled” when they saw him.
Meanwhile, Harry branded Camilla the “villain” and a “wicked stepmother” and accused her of leaking stories to the media about Prince William.

Chat show host Ellen DeGeneres was also at the launch party, as was Netflix chief Ted Sarandos.
Harry is thought to have inspired the bookshop’s name with a throwaway quip at the launch party for Spare last year.
Unveiling the controversial memoir, Harry called Oprah Winfrey, Victoria Jackson and Jennifer Rudolph Walsh his “fairy godmothers”.
When Jackson and Walsh decided to start the shop together, Oprah said: “There’s really only one thing you can name it – Godmothers.”
